Travel to Croatia
DAY 1. Arrival in Trieste and pick up of the vehicle.
On August 3. We left from Valencia with Ryanair towards Trieste. There are other flight options but this one went for around 150 euros both. We arrived at the destination at 22:25. There, our Fiat Punto (180 euros for a week) was waiting for us at Sixt's office. You have to request cross border to Croatia. The truth is that the price is very good thinking that you are going to put a good amount of kilometers. The reason for not taking a bigger car was because of the parking options within the cobbled cities such as Dubrovnik, Split, etc.
We picked up the car and went straight to the hotel to rest. As the arrival was late, we chose a hotel a couple of kilometers from the airport, in Turriaca. There the owner and friendly Tiziano attended us. It is a B & B called Isonzo. Perfect stay. (60 euros with breakfast) Note that the dining room is a bunker of the 1st World War and that it has a very cool pool that by the time we arrived we could not enjoy it.

DAY 2. Visit to Ljuviana and Zagreb
We got up early and after a good breakfast (Tiziano prepared us some scandalous curasanes for breakfast, that's good!) And the indications of Tiziano, we went to Slovenia to visit Ljuviana and eat in Zagreb. In an hour and a half we were in Ljubiana. What a surprise! I loved it! Maybe it was because I did not expect it but without being the spectacular city I recommend it. It is very pleasant both the city and the road to it.
LJUVIANA
There you can visit the Triple Bridge, which crosses the river through the center of the city. The squares of the center (Mestni, Stari and Gornji), the town hall, the Cathedral of San Nicolás, the bridge of the Dragons (entrance to the historic center of the city), the market (behind the cathedral) and of course the castle.
It is a medieval fortress on the mountain of the city (it can be climbed on foot or in a funicular (2euros) .It is totally rehabilitated and it is the best of the city, together with the charm of the whole. You can also visit the National Gallery, El Museum of History, the gardens of Tivoli and the new bridge It is recommended to go up to the castle not only for what is there, the castle itself, but also for the spectacular views of the city as the photo shows.
DAY 2. Visit to Zagreb
Once seen in a panoramic way the city we went to Zagreb. continued the green and lush landscapes (not used by a Valencian), and in an hour and a half we were in the Croatian capital. Here if I found what was planned. A big city without charm. 4 monuments, some historical building and above all, dirty buildings, graffiti, and FLAGS OF CROATIA. I do not know what the reason is but it's full of flags. I imagine that patriotism comes from recent wars.
Leaving Zagreb we could see the new stadium of the city, beautiful, and arriving at the hotel that was in Rakovica, the trip wanted to give us an unexpected visit to some lakes.
It was curious because there was a very intense fog over them. As they explained to us, in summer there is a very high temperature difference between the water and the air produced by this steam. Highly recommended to see. The lake was called Slujcika. A good place to stop to stretch your legs and enjoy nature while you rest. Very nice.
Finally we arrived at the Marko Tourism Center. 49 euros with breakfast the double room. For me highly recommended. Yes, we were at 16 degrees! That after a hyper-hot day ... It was appreciated.
It's only been 3 days and I think it's the trip I liked the most. I have enjoyed completely medieval Roman cities, small towns with an inanarrable charm. Of great cities with their imposing monuments. Of beaches with crystal clear waters. Of a good Mediterranean gastronomy. Of calm and peaceful islands. Of spectacular natural parks ... In short, I enjoyed. As you can see .. a country for all tastes. I'm sure I'll come back in a quieter plan to enjoy the country. I was left with the desire to enter the area of Mostar in Bosnia.
